A Step-By-Step Guide on How to Fix a Sagging Couch Cushions

Posted by Meliusly

Have you ever noticed that after a few years, your sofa’s cushions start to look a bit… deflated? It’s the same feeling you get when your favorite pair of shoes starts to go flat—you know it’s time for a replacement. But instead of spending hundreds on a brand new sofa, why not build your own support board in just a few steps? We’ll show you how!

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

To make your own sofa cushion support you won’t need much for this DIY project. All you need is;

  • Plywood (medium density fiberboard will also work)
  • Scissors
  • Twine or string
  • Rubber bands

The size of the plywood depends on the size of your couch. Measure the length of each cushion and make sure the plywood is at least 2 inches longer than each cushion. That way, once everything is put together there won’t be any gaps or empty spaces between the board and the cushion.

Step 2: Cut Out Your Plywood

Once you have all your materials ready, measure and cut out your plywood according to the measurements of your couch cushions. This step is crucial in creating a sagging sofa support board that will effectively fix a sagging couch, but you don’t need to be too precise with this step—it doesn’t have to be perfect! Just make sure it fits snugly beneath each cushion when laid out on top of them.

Step 3: Secure Your Plywood with Twine or String

Now that you have cut out your plywood pieces, it’s time to secure them in place with twine or string. This step will ensure that your  sofa cushion support  don't move around while they are underneath each couch cushion. Simply loop one end of either type of string around one corner of the plywood piece and then tie it off securely with a rubber band at both ends. Repeat this process until all four sides are secured firmly in place.

Once completed, lay out the support panel or your sofa cushion saver beneath each cushion and you should now have an instant sagging sofa support board!

Congratulations! Your sofa should now look and feel almost like when it was new!
